HEI, Inc. (Nasdaq: HEII), a designer and manufacturer of microelectronics, has received orders totaling $12.0 million from Sonic Innovations and, separately, a $4.8 million order from Lucent Technologies for products to be delivered in FY2001, with potential increases of up to 25% from each company. As HEI begins its second quarter, FY2001 year-to-date shipments plus booked backlog exceeds $50 million, which is over 75% of initially planned revenue for the year.

"The Lucent Technologies order is for 2.5 gigabit and faster fiber optic laser modules, typically used in Dense Wave Division Multiplier (DWDM) applications. This fiber optic order fits squarely within our strategic plan to design and manufacture high-speed broadband, communication products. HEI also has proprietary technology which can be used in the next two generations of fiber optic transceivers, the 10 gigabit OC192 and 32 gigabit OC768 products," said Don Reynolds, President and Chief Operating Officer, HEI, Inc.

HEI, Inc., and Cross Technology, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of HEI, Inc., specialize in the custom design and manufacture of high-performance, ultraminiature microelectronic devices and high-technology products incorporating those devices. HEI and Cross contribute to their customers' competitiveness in the hearing, medical, communications, wireless smart cards, other RF applications, and industrial markets through innovative design solutions and by the application of state-of-the art materials, processes and manufacturing capabilities.
