US West Communications, Denver, CO, has teamed with Cisco Systems, San Jose, CA, and Intermedia Inc., Tampa, FL, to complete its national data network. As part of US West and Cisco?s relationship, Cisco will provide advanced switching capabilities to power US West?s network infrastructure. The two companies will also develop new network-enabled services, such as Internet protocol, telephony, fax, and multimedia applications for national business customers. US West?s partnership with Intermedia gives US West additional national reach for its data-networking and Internet services through Intermedia?s data switches and network-to-network interfaces. The Cisco and Intermedia relationships complement an alliance between US West and Williams Communications that gives US West access to more than 18,000 mi of Williams?s fiber-optic backbone architecture. Intermedia also recently purchased capacity on Williams?s network.
