Harmstorf Submarine Systems Pte. Ltd. (hss), Singapore, recently completed the deep burial of two segments of the Asian Pacific Cable Network (apcn) south of Hong Kong., which connects Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore. Two segments?35 and 30 km?are buried to an average depth of 10 m in order to protect the 5-Gbit/sec network from the largest anchors on ships. hss used the cable barge chin ann 3 and injector technology for the project and buried the cable within 50 m of existing apcn cables and within 500 m of other undersea cables. Hongkong Telecom held technical and management responsibility during the installation.
