Qwest Communications International Inc., Denver, CO, is $20 million richer due to three new carrier customers. Each of the customers, the names of which Qwest did not reveal, including Internet and telecommunications service providers, signed multiyear lease contracts for bulk services at OC-3 (155 Mbits/sec) and OC-12 (622 Mbits/sec) on Qwest`s fiber-optic network. Qwest is building a bidirectional, line-switching OC-192 (10-Gbit/sec) sonet designed to deliver multimedia and voice traffic across approximately 16,000 mi in the United States. Qwest also recently activated the stretch of network between Kansas City and St. Louis, MO. With the activation, Qwest has more than 3100 mi of its network in service.
