nextlink Communications Inc. (Bellevue, WA), a provider of facilities-based local and long-distance communications services, launched a commercial service for small and medium-sized businesses in the New York metropolitan area. In addition to its operating markets in other metropolitan areas, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Atlanta, nextlink plans to launch service in Dallas, Denver, Miami, San Diego, Washington, DC, and Seattle by mid-1999. The company`s fiber-optic network consists of more than 152,000 fiber-mi throughout the United States.
