FiveCom Inc. (Waltham, MA), a carrier?s carrier telecommunications provider, plans to deploy a metropolitan and intercity network spanning approximately 500 mi by the end of the year using optical networking technology from Nortel (Brampton, ON, Canada). FiveCom is using Nortel?s OC-48 (2.5-Gbit/sec) ring architecture for metropolitan applications and is deploying Nortel?s s/dms TransportNode OC-48 and OC-12 (622-Mbit/sec) fiber-optic products in its NorthEast Optic Network. FiveCom is focused on providing services in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire.
