Project Oxygen is a planned global optical-fiber undersea cable communications network scheduled to begin cable installation in 1999. The first phase will use approximately 158,000 km of fiber-optic cable, linking 74 locations. Project Oxygen Network`s major transatlantic and transpacific links are scheduled for operation in 2000.
