IXC Communications Inc. (Austin, TX) announced implementation of its first OC-192 fiber-optic

Oct. 1, 1998

IXC Communications Inc. (Austin, TX) announced implementation of its first OC-192 fiber-optic transmission system for long-haul networks supporting up to 80 Gbits/sec and more than doubling its current network capacity. Plans call for the system to be expanded to 160 Gbits/sec upon availability from vendors, anticipated by early next year. Complementing previously deployed short-haul routes with the same capability, IXC claims to have the longest eight-wavelength OC-192 system deployed anywhere in the world.
