Owens Corning of Toledo, OH, plans to expand its telecommunications systems into Latin America by building a production plant in Rio Claro, Brazil. The plant will produce a central strength member (csm) for telecommunications cable combining the properties of glass reinforcements with resin formulations. The csms are an important element in fiber-optic cables. Commercial production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 1998. The new plant will be located near the company`s existing glass-fiber-reinforcements facility.
