aep Communications, a subsidiary of American Electric Power (Columbus, OH), and network provider ValleyNet (Waynesboro, VA) have joined their interstate fiber-optic networks. aep Communications serves Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio; ValleyNet covers Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee, with a link to the cfn Network that serves North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The combined networks will have 4500 mi of fiber-optic cable for provision of leased DS-1 (2.108-Mbit/sec), DS-3 (44.736-Mbit/sec), and higher sonet-based services.
