Neptune Communications Corp., Fairfax, VA, plans to install the Pacific Express Cable Network connecting the US Pacific Northwest to cable-landing points in Guam, Japan, Korea, Canada, and Oahu, HI, in a self-healing ring configuration. Neptune hopes to include China in the fiber-optic network in the future. The 25,000-mi network will be a 4-fiber-pair cable system with a capacity of 80 Gbits/sec. Service will be phased in by segments starting in 1999, with completion scheduled during 2000.
