17 July 2003 Monterey Park, CA Lightwave -- Lightcross Inc.
, developer of silicon-based Electro-Optical Integrated Circuits (EPIC), today announced the availability of its high-speed Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA) arrays.

Lightcross' VOA arrays are based on silicon EPIC technology to achieve what the company claims is industry leading sub-microsecond response times, very wide attenuation range, low PDL, small insertion loss, and low power consumption. The high speed and simple current control characteristics of the EPIC VOA array makes it ideally suited for optical transient suppression and subcarrier modulation applications. These VOA arrays are also well suited for a variety of power management applications in optical networks, says the company.

"Lightcross has leveraged well-known, reliable silicon technology to produce breakthroughs in both performance and cost of these devices," explains Bob Barron, president and chief executive officer at Lightcross. "Lightcross has been working successfully with key customers to ensure that the product meets the performance, reliability, and price requirements for applications in both long haul and metro networks."

Lightcross offers four-, six-, eight- and 10-channel VOA arrays as standard products and is currently shipping small volume pre-production samples with general availability in October 2003.
