16 May 2003 Everett, WA Lightwave -- Fluke Networks recently announced the worldwide availability of three new singlemode modules for the OptiFiber Certifying OTDR, which the company claims is the first field Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) to integrate automated OTDR and insertion loss certification with video fiber inspection. The new modules are field-swappable without tools, making the switch from multimode to singlemode testing both fast and simple.

The first singlemode module offers dual-wavelength automated OTDR testing with ChannelMap, allowing users to automatically generate a visual representation of the entire channel across a campus. The second module adds the capabilities of an optical power meter, and the final module incorporates all these features in addition to an automated dual-wavelength, dual-fiber insertion loss and length certification feature. OptiFiber singlemode models also work with the 400X FiberInspector Video Microscope, adding the extra-detailed end-face inspection needed for singlemode connectors. The FiberInspector probe comes with a 100-m singlemode launch cable and a carrying case for fiber accessories. "OptiFiber maintains a step ahead of traditional long-haul OTDRs," contends Jeff Lime, business unit manager for Infrastructure SuperVision Solutions at Fluke Networks. "It not only boasts the industry's smallest, most lightweight, and ruggedly constructed design, but all of OptiFiber's advanced optical modules feature short deadzones to accurately locate closely spaced events. Combined with its other unique features like ChannelMap, fiber endface inspection, and LinkWare software, OptiFiber is the ideal OTDR for LAN-based testing and troubleshooting." Orders for OptiFiber singlemode modules are now being taken from Fluke Networks' distribution partners worldwide with an eight-week delivery. OptiFiber singlemode module with ChannelMap (OFTM-5630) is priced at $7,995. OptiFiber singlemode and optical power meter module (OFTM-5631) is $8,495. OptiFiber singlemode with power meter and loss/length module (OFTM-5632) is $9,495. LinkWare PC reporting software ships with all Fluke Networks' certification products at no additional cost.
