20 May 2003 Stockholm and Melbourne, Australia--Lumentis announces an agreement with Australian carrier Uecomm Limited to deliver storage area network (SAN) services to OM Australia, a provider of transaction technology for the financial services and energy industries. Lumentis is providing its Mentis optical transport platform, which eliminates the need for optical amplifiers, to assist with the offering of high-end enterprise services such as SAN along with increased bandwidth to enable real-time backup of data. This platform enables Uecomm to deliver transport services with a range of different protocols such as Internet Protocol, SDH, Fibre Channel, and Gigabit Ethernet.

Uecomm provides a MetroWave service that allows organizations like OM to transmit large quantities of data at high speeds to multiple locations. "By selecting the best optical transport partner for this project, Lumentis, we were able to secure a three-year contract with OM," said Brendan Park, products and marketing director for Uecomm.

Established in 1997, Uecomm is Australia's only specialized fiber-optic network provider of broadband data services to government, large corporations, and other carriers and telecommunications service providers.
