Metromedia Fiber Network signs agreement with GNG Networks in Korea

Jan. 5, 2001
Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc., a provider of data centers and Internet connectivity through its AboveNet Communications subsidiary, has signed an agreement with GNG Networks in Korea to provide Internet connectivity and co-location services in its San Jose Internet Service Exchange (ISX) facility.

Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc., (MFN) (Nasdaq: MFNX) a provider of optical IP Internet infrastructure within key metropolitan areas domestically and internationally, and provider of data centers and Internet connectivity through its AboveNet Communications subsidiary, has signed an agreement with GNG Networks in Korea to provide Internet connectivity and co-location services in its San Jose Internet Service Exchange (ISX) facility.

Under the agreement, GNG Networks, one of the largest network carriers in Korea with a network of more than 5000 miles of fiber-optic cable nationwide and owner of an Internet Data Center of more than 150,000 square feet, will have access to AboveNet's global network, taking advantage of AboveNet's extensive peering and scalable bandwidth.

MFN/AboveNet offers GNG Networks superior network performance, significant bandwidth, and extensive peering relationships with the key U.S. and international ISPs and content providers. AboveNet has a policy of not competing with its ISP and telco customers, which allows them to use their own routing equipment and establish additional peering relationships.

GNG Networks will be able to take advantage of the AboveNet One-Hop network, employing intelligent network routing technology and peering relationships to ensure a high level of data integrity for its Internet backbone network. By working with AboveNet, GNG can combine Internet connectivity solutions with virtually unlimited data throughput capacity via fiber connections running into the AboveNet ISX.

The AboveNet ISX facility is part of MFN's planned deployment of an all-optical IP architecture over a dedicated fiber optic network that reaches throughout the local loop in 67 cities across the globe. All ISX facilities will provide MFN customers with an advanced, fail-safe data center environment, as well as Internet connectivity. The combination of intelligent connectivity and massive bandwidth availability enables content and service providers to deliver an ever-advancing class of new, data-rich applications.
