ePUREDATA Inc., an Internet-unified communications company, announces the upcoming release of its "gigabit-ready, fiber-ready" backbone switches. The new switch line includes the standalone PDC8023Z-24B, the Stackable PDC8023Z-M24B/L3+ and the modular PDC8023Z-M6B/L3+. All switches provide a 64Gbps backplane fabric for mission-critical networks and uses a hardware-based Layer 3 switching technology to offer complete IP Routing, IP Multicast, and QoS (Quality of Service) functionality. By using hardware-based Routing ASIC; the switch is capable of routing up to 20 million packets per second.
The PDC8023Z-24B is equipped with 24 10/100 Base-TX auto-sensing ports with 2 slots for Gigabit connections. The switch offers wire-speed IP Routing, VLAN, QoS and a 64Gbps backplane switching fabric to support bandwidth-intensive application such as video on demand. Dynamic IP routing is supported using RIP, RIP2, and OSPF. Up to 1,024, user-defined VLAN can be grouped by protocol type, IP Address, IP Subnets Address and IGMP groups. The 802.1p Quality of Service protocol ensures performance such as traffic delivery priority, speed or latency. Delivery of good-quality audio or video streams usually requires QoS capabilities. The switch uses a web-based management either via a browser or through a console port using a CLI text-based program. Other popular switching features include SNMP, Spanning Tree, Flow Control, and IGMP Multicast for a complete end-to-end switch solution. For future expansion, all backbone switches come with additional 10/100Base-TX, 100Base-FX, 1000 Base-SX and 1000 Base-LX Gigabit module or stacking units.
The 1000 Base-T copper Gigabit module will be made available in spring 2001.
PUREDATA's new backbone switches consist of the following available models and options:
* The PDC8023Z-S24B/L3+ is an enterprise level standalone backbone switch and can be used as a gateway switch for a wiring closet or collapsed backbone in SMB.
* The PDC8023Z-M24B/L3+ switch is a "stackable" backbone Master switch and offers even more flexibility. It can be a standalone unit or stack up to four-unit by using PDC8023Z-TX24 (24-port 10/100 Base-TX switch) or PDC8023ZFX8B (8-port 100 Base-FX - MTRJ) switch as slave units. Overall, a total of 96 10/100 with 2 Gigabit ports can be reached.
* The PDC8023ZM6B/L3+ switch is a modular 6-port 1000 Base-SX (MTRJ) Gigabit Ethernet backbone switch. Unlike the previous two, it offers 2 modular slots for an optional 6-port 1000 Base-SX (MTRJ) Gigabit Ethernet module, or a 16-port 10/100 Base-TX module.
* All backbone switches come with two WAN modules: PDC8023Z-WN1B for T1/E1 or PDC8023Z-DS1B for xDSL interface. These models are equipped with redundant power supply and can support up to six units.
