Broadwing Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of the integrated communications provider Broadwing Inc. (NYSE: BRW), announced that McAfee.com (NASDAQ: MCAF), a provider of web security services, has become the first commercial customer for the company's Point-to-Point Optical Gigabit Ethernet service.
Broadwing will extend its optical network directly to McAfee.com's data centers, giving McAfee.com the flexibility and power to respond to customer needs for web security services, while experiencing higher levels of speed and efficiency and lower costs for bandwidth and network management.
Broadwing's Point-to-Point Optical Gigabit Ethernet, which will be generally available on October 1, 2001, is designed for Fortune 2000 enterprises, carriers and Internet Service Providers, and provides high-speed Ethernet transport at the traditional private line speeds of DS-3, OC-3 and OC-12. Customers benefit from Optical Gigabit Ethernet because it is protocol agnostic, easy to install and provides customers with one simple connection.
