CIENA enters China through agreement with Beijing IDN

June 25, 2001--CIENA Corporation, a global provider of intelligent optical networking systems and software, announced a sales agreement with Beijing IDN.

CIENA Corporation (Nasdaq: CIEN), a global provider of intelligent optical networking systems and software, announced a sales agreement with Beijing IDN (CEC/IDN) at a signing ceremony at the Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing. CEC/IDN plans to deploy CIENA's MultiWave CoreDirector and MetroDirector K2 products, and has already placed purchase orders with CIENA.

Beijing IDN is the joint venture formed by China Electronic Corporation (CEC), the largest electronic enterprise in China, and IDN Telecom, Inc., a privately held broadband and metro access solution company with headquarters in Fremont, Calif. CEC was established in 1989 under the jurisdiction of China's State Central Enterprises Working Committee with a mandate to vitalize and develop China's information industry.
