NeTune Communications chooses Zuma's LightReef for metro broadband network

June 12, 2001
June 12, 2001--Zuma Networks, a pre-IPO provider of layer 2/3/4 switch-routing/IP service delivery platforms, announced that NeTune Communications has purchased two of its LightReef Z1 IP Services Switching platforms.

Zuma Networks, a pre-IPO provider of layer 2/3/4 switch-routing/IP service delivery platforms, announced that NeTune Communications has purchased two of its LightReef Z1 IP Services Switching platforms. NeTune Communications is a provider of turnkey integrated broadband network services utilizing digital satellite, terrestrial wireless and fiber networking for the motion picture and television production industries.

NeTune Communications is developing a high-speed IP based services network infrastructure to help make the television and motion picture production and content distribution process more efficient. At present, much of the content is distributed by mailing tapes or film stock via common carrier -- negating the ability to make real-time creative decisions. In addition, one of the weakest links in the television and motion picture production chain is the prohibitive cost in developing and distributing high-bandwidth content over the telecommunications infrastructure.

The two LightReef units will be used for a pilot of real-time digital video transport over NeTune's IP based network, with guaranteed priority and bandwidth. The pilot will take place in NeTune's LA Metropolitan Area backbone network. NeTune plans to add additional Metro backbones in New York City and London. Concludes Parrish,
