July 3, 2001--Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. announced Centennial de Puerto Rico is expanding its agreement to incorporate two of Fujitsu's FLASH high-capacity metro SONET transport systems into their network.

Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. announced Centennial de Puerto Rico is expanding its agreement to incorporate two of Fujitsu's FLASH high-capacity metro synchronous optical network (SONET) transport systems into their network. Fujitsu is a U.S. supplier of SONET metro equipment.

The million-dollar agreement calls for Fujitsu to deploy its FLASH600 ADX and FLASH2400 ADX next generation metro SONET platforms to build new networks and provide incremental network coverage. The equipment will be used in point-to-point and ring configurations with full add/drop capabilities for Centennial customer networks. Centennial will also use and benefit from these platforms on their own backbone network.

Fujitsu will deploy the equipment first in San Juan, and eventually in Puerto Rico's major island rings covering such cities as Mayaguez, Ponce, Aguadilla and San German.

Fujitsu's FLASH600 ADX and FLASH2400 ADX enable Centennial Networks to provision new services quickly, and provide Centennial with increased network flexibility for interfaces such as DS-1, DS-3, OC-3 ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) and Gigabit Ethernet.

Fujitsu systems deployed in Centennial's network include FLM 6, FLM 150, FLM 600, FLM 2400, as well as passive wave division multiplexing equipment.

The FLASH family of products is a next generation, multiservice product family targeting converging networks, featuring transport of traditional TDM (Time Division Multiplexed) telecom traffic, Ethernet, and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) data traffic, or any combination over SONET and DWDM fiber-based networks. There are three major products in the FLASH product family: the FLASH2400 ADX, the FLASH600 ADX and the FLASH150 ADX.

The FLASH2400 ADX is optimized for core transport needs with tunable narrowband OC-48 (2.5 Gbps) and OC-192 (10 Gbps) optics inside its data-ready platform. The FLASH600 ADX is designed for unmatched grooming options for traffic entering from subtending access rings into OC-12 and OC-48 interoffice rings. The FLASH150 ADX is a compact, multiservice unit designed for the edge of the network optimized for OC-3 and OC-12 access applications. The FLASH150 ADX slashes the cost of extending SONET or multiservice data networks to customer locations.
