Cogent Lands Rudin deal for Manhattan access

Feb. 16, 2001
Cogent Communications, Inc., a next-generation Internet Service Provider, announced it has signed a contract with the Rudin Management Company, one of the largest privately held real estate entities in New York City, to equip 16 commercial properties with all-optical 100 Mbps Internet access capability.

Cogent Communications, Inc., a next-generation Internet Service Provider (ISP), announced it has signed a contract with the Rudin Management Company, one of the largest privately held real estate entities in New York City, to equip 16 commercial properties with all-optical 100 Mbps Internet access capability. The properties encompass 10 million square feet and house an undisclosed number of tenants. As part of the agreement, Cogent will also become a Rudin Companies tenant at 32 Sixth Avenue. This property will serve as Cogent's primary Manhattan hub site. The site is currently under re-development by Rudin as the NY Global Connectivity Center, scheduled for completion during this year.

The Cogent Communications all-optical 100 Mbps service is enabled through equipment from networking leaders such as Cisco Systems, Chromatis Networks, Williams Communications, and Metromedia Fiber Network. Fiber-equipped multi-tenant properties have better occupancy rates and also command higher monthly rents. Significantly increased end-user capacity, efficient network utilization, and control of a facilities-based long haul backbone translate into superior economic advantages for subscribers.

About Cogent Communications:

Cogent Communications is a next-generation ISP focused on delivering ultra-high speed Internet access to businesses in the multi-tenant marketplace. Cogent's facilities-based all-optical end-to-end IP network enables 100 Mbps connectivity, a rate that is about 100 times faster than observed T1 capacity (or 65 times faster than the published rate of 1.544 Mbps).
