Undersea fiber-optic connectors

Two undersea connector sets-a plug and receptacle mated pair for inline applications, and a plug connector with a flange-mount hermetic receptacle for hull applications-can be supplied as custom-cable assemblies. The patented receptacle is glass-sealed and has a hermeticity of 1䁾-9 cc/sec of helium, allowing the connectors to resist water pressure to 5000 psi. O-ring seals are used in both sets to ensure sealing integrity. Ceramic contact bushings provide alignment of fiber-optic contacts to ensure insertion losses of 1.0 dB or less on multimode contacts at 850- and 1300-nm wavelengths.
