    The 1603/12 SM Sonet multiplexer has OC-12 (622-Mbit/sec) transport capability. It can operate as an OC-3 and OC-12 system at the same time, using an OC-12 line rate through one direction and an OC-3 line rate through the other direction on the same shelf. This device supports linear and ring networks.
