US West will work with BPL India Ltd., a manufacturer of home entertainment electronics, to construct a fiber-optic network that will provide India with its first privately operated telecommunications services. They will provide an integrated broadband wireline and fixed wireless network using digital technology in six secondary switching areas in southern India. US West will build, own and operate the $1 billion network.
