Multimedia Cablevision in Wichita, KS, will use Chicago-based General Instrument distribution and Cableoptics technology to upgrade 8000 miles of broadband networks in five states, including Kansas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana and North Carolina. The equipment is valued at $30 million, and the project is estimated to take three years. Multimedia is purchasing 750-megahert¥technology to rebuild systems ranging in frequency from 300 to 450 MHz. The upgrades will include contingencies for digital technology.
