Worldcom Inc.

Worldcom Inc., Tulsa, OK, and MFS Communications Co. in Omaha, NE, have joined forces in a $14.4 billion stock deal to create MFS WorldCom, a fiber-network powerhouse. Worldcom has deployed 11,000 route-miles of fiber and has another 9000 miles under construction. MFS has 3600 route-miles, totaling approximately 227,000 fiber-miles.
