Mini optical time-domain reflectometer

HP E6000A portable mini-otdr helps pinpoint network faults and degradation. It has a 35-dB dynamic range, 16,000 data points with 15-cm resolution and 20-m deadzone. The unit has one-button operation and automatic test and analysis capabilities. Included are an intuitive user interface and online help, as well as "smart-battery" technology, which features long battery life, short charge times and charge- status information. Weighing less than 2.8 kg (6.2 lbs), the otdr can be used as a fiber-break locator or as a stabilized light source. It is compatible with the HP 8147 full-sized otdr and remote fiber-test system (HP 81700 series 200). The otdr costs $9000 to $14,000, de pend ing upon configuration.
