AMP readies fiber plant: AMP Inc. in Harrisburg, PA, will begin production of singlemode and multimode fiber-optic cable at its Greensboro, NC, plant later this year. AMP has created the optical-fiber cable division as the fifth unit of its Global Optical Interconnect Systems Group. The new plant will produce Simplex, Zipcord, Dualan and Quadlan interconnect cabling; premises distribution in 1 to 144 fibers for riser, plenum and low-smoke, zero-halogen applications; outside plant cabling in 2 to 216 fibers for dielectric and riser-rated designs; and specialty cable.
