Siemens AG in Munich has constructed a metropolitan area network to connect four sites in that city. Transferring data, audio and video signals, the fiber-optic network allows dynamic bandwidth-on-demand for users of asynchronous services such as the Internet, and telephony and video applications. The duplex transfer speed is 155 megabits per second, which translates to 2000 simultaneous telephone calls.
