FEBRUARY 17, 2009 -- RCN Metro Optical Networks (search Lightwave for RCN), a division of RCN Corp., says it is providing facilities-based local-exchange, long-distance, and video services provider Empire One Telecommunications with a SONET-based communications infrastructure.

Empire One Telecommunications needed a high-bandwidth, SONET-based network to support its voice, data, and video applications and customers. RCN Metro says it recommended a dedicated SONET hub with point-to-point end links not only because it was best suited to support Empire One's application and current needs but because it could seamlessly and quickly scale to meet future requirements as well.

"We chose RCN Metro because they were able to provide us with a comprehensive solution for our complex connectivity needs. Through RCN Metro's SONET Service, Empire One is able to connect to multiple end locations over a dedicated, protected, high-speed network," said Paul Butler, COO of Empire One Telecommunications.
