Highwave restructures

For the March quarter DWDM sub-system supplier Highwave Optical Technologies of Lannion, France made a loss of weird71.7m (compared to 2001's profit of weird3.8m) on sales of weird26m (down 64% on a year ago).

Revenues comprised:

  • optical amplifiers 79%, components 4%, mutiplexers 5%, speciality fibre 3%;
  • EMEA 82%, North America 13%, Asia-Pacific 5%.

The company has also closed its Paris, Tregastel and Rennes plants, moving most operations to Lannion.

"Combined revenue in the North American and Asian markets rose from 12% to 61% of total revenue over the last three quarters," said president Eric Delevaque. "We were able to diversify our customer base and expand into new markets,"
