SEPTEMBER 26, 2006 -- Transmode (search for Transmode) and channel partner Arcadiz have announced that Casema, a Dutch cable-TV operator, has successfully deployed the Transmode TS-1100 C/DWDM platform to support triple-play services in The Netherlands.

The new network provides Casema with Gigabit Ethernet and SDH capacity to support expansion in existing triple-play services, while also supporting high-capacity services directly to large enterprise customers. The initial phase of the deployment, which was in service by the end of August, comprised 40 nodes.

Casema are one of the largest cable-TV operators in The Netherlands with a residential customer base of around 1.4 million subscribers. Casema's business division (Casema Zakelijk) also provides a range of high-end services to enterprise customers across the region.

"With the Transmode TS-1100 platform, Casema are capable of simply and quickly increasing network capacity to meet the rapidly changing demand from both residential and business customers, whilst maintaining a low day-one cost to the network," said Andrei Noppe, vice president, network operations at Casema. "Transmode and Arcadiz provide us with not only the right product but also the right services and support, enabling us to increase our flexibility to better serve our rapidly growing customer base."

The TS-1100 deployment provides Casema with a flexible and scalable platform supporting multi-protocol 2.5- and 10-Gbit/sec transponders and hi-speed and low-speed muxponder units. Initially supporting low-cost CWDM wavelengths, the system has the scalability to extend to additional CWDM and DWDM wavelengths in service. Using patented Intelligent WDM protocol recognition and functionality such as SFP/XFP pluggable optics, the TS-1100 provides network operators and enterprises with a true plug-and-play experience, greatly reducing network and service turn up times, the vendor says.

"Arcadiz provide Casema with a broad range of local support and professional services, thus ensuring that the cost of introducing this new network is minimized and the return on investment is maximized," said Jos Vermeylen, Arcadiz's managing director. "In addition to 24/7 local TAC support, Arcadiz provide installation and commissioning, product training, network design consultancy, and network management integration support to Casema."

"The Casema project is a great example of the suitability of the Transmode portfolio for cable-TV and triple-play applications," said Johan Lindskog, Transmode's vice president of sales and marketing. "The high degree of automation provides Casema with a powerful yet simple-to-use product. When this is combined with a strong local partner such as Arcadiz, the customer can swiftly scale their network to meet the rapid and sometimes unpredictable growth seen in these networks, especially when enterprise services are also supported from the same platform."
