DECEMBER 19, 2006 -- IDT (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; search for IDT) has revealed that its application-optimized network search accelerator is being used by Xelerated (search for Xelerated) on its reference boards to demonstrate wire-speed metro Ethernet and enterprise applications.

Customers can achieve significant time-to-market benefits by using its device, IDT says. By offloading the classification and forwarding lookups from Xelerated's Ethernet optimized X11 network processor, the IDT search accelerators enable richer services support at an aggregated 20-Gbit/sec line rate, according to the company.

"Xelerated and IDT have been successfully working closely together since 2001, starting with the X10q network processor. Our X11 and future network processor devices support the IDT new generation of super-fast network search engines and accelerators. Our customers are now able to support even more advanced applications than before by utilizing the fastest search accelerators on the market today," said Thomas Eklund, vice president of business development and EMEA sales at Xelerated. "Our network processors have also been able to take direct advantage of the 80-bit search interface from IDT when processing advanced classifications. We have also increased our ability to provide robust services at line rate by utilizing the IDT enhanced data integrity features such as error correction code."

Beyond its flexibility to support IPv6 and simplify board design, the IDT search accelerators also lower overall system cost, deliver improved reliability and system availability, and provide the necessary scalability to meet future performance requirements, the company says.

"IDT is pleased to be working with Xelerated, who has earned considerable design traction worldwide with both leading communications vendors as well as enterprise vendors, and is considered one of the leaders in the fast growing metro Ethernet segment," said Derek Dicker, co-general manager for the IDT IP co-processor division. "Through our strong collaboration, we are now able to provide a complete solution that is easy for customers to implement, which includes products with seamless interfaces, hardware and software development kits, and reference designs."

The IDT search accelerators process complex IPv6 policy lookups at 40-Gbit/sec throughput and above. With integrated error correction code to improve data integrity and system uptime, the search accelerators accelerate packet header classification and forwarding in core, metro, and access networks.
