DECEMBER 20, 2006 -- XO Communications (search for XO Communications) today announced a five-year agreement to provide metro dark fiber to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County (Metro), TN.

Per the agreement, Metro will use dark fiber from XO to create a high-speed data network that will connect twenty-two major government administration buildings, including emergency response, police, fire, and city services, as well as additional locations as the need arises. XO owns and operates one of the largest fiber networks in Nashville, covering more than 450 route-miles across the metropolitan area.

"With the scale of this project, XO was the only provider that could meet our needs in terms of network infrastructure, support, and technology expertise," reports Sandy Cole, director of Information Technology Services for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. "With the support of XO, this advanced communications network will help the Metro Information Technology Services Department achieve their strategic vision to provide information, communication, and business solutions to the departments and agencies of the Metropolitan Government so that they can achieve their business objectives and exceed the expectations of the citizens we all serve," says Cole.

"We are very pleased that the Metropolitan Government has chosen XO as the underlying provider of network infrastructure," adds Brian Law, general manager of XO's Tennessee and Missouri markets. "This agreement highlights the extensive coverage of XO's metro network. We look forward to working with the Metropolitan Government as it continues to enhance government communications systems in support of the services it provides to its citizens."

XO owns and operates one of the most extensive arrays of metro and inter-city fiber networks in the United States, encompassing 9,100 route-miles of metro fiber in 37 markets and a nationwide inter-city fiber network spanning 18,000 route miles. Across this network footprint, XO offers businesses, service providers, and other organizations dark fiber and data transport, including Ethernet, private line, and wavelength services that provide door-to-door delivery of customer traffic, say XO representatives.
