OCTOBER 16, 2006 -- Syntune AB (search for Syntune), a developer of single-chip tunable lasers and transmitters, has signed Altima Corp. as its exclusive distributor in Japan.

"The Japanese market is already one of our largest and as it continues to grow, it is essential for us to have an experienced distributor like Altima to help us meet the needs of the market," said Kevin Green, vice president of marketing and sales at Syntune. "Altima has been very successful in Japan for many years and we look forward to seeing that success continue with our entire product line."

Syntune develops widely tunable products that operate over the entire C-Band and are instrumental in enabling the next generation of agile optical networks. Its patented monolithic design minimizes size, power consumption, and cost, while still allowing the fastest possible tuning speeds, the company says.

"In the rapid growth of broadband and rise of the next generation network (NGN), the core network equipment is required to offer more flexibility in a smaller size," said Kiyoshi Nakashima, president of Altima. "Through this partnership with Syntune who addresses such requirements, we believe we can support our optical customers in Japan even more deeply."
