MARCH 19, 2007 -- The new OLT/ONT devices are designed for FSAN / ITU-T G.984.2 Class B/B+ service where wide dynamic range, fast response time, and low noise are critical, say company representatives.

MARCH 19, 2007 -- Ligent Photonics Inc. today announced the expansion of its optical line terminal (search for OLT) and optical network terminal (search for ONT) GPON transceiver product line for 2488.32 Mbits/sec downstream and 1244.16 Mbits/sec upstream bidirectional data links.

The new OLT/ONT devices are designed for FSAN / ITU-T G.984.2 Class B/B+ service where wide dynamic range, fast response time, and low noise are critical. These devices operate in the 1310-nm and 1490-nm bands and incorporate APD/TIA or PIN/TIA receivers and DFB or F-P laser transmitters.

Fabricated with a rugged die cast EMI/RFI shielded metal housing and cage assembly, the devices are offered in an array of industry standard SFF and SFP packages with fiber pigtails or SC receptacles, says the company. The SFF 8472 Revision 9.3 digital diagnostic monitor feature set is offered on certain models to enable the system to monitor transceiver operating parameters in real time. The transceivers feature model dependent advanced monitoring and control functions that are essential for GPON burst-mode service.

"Our OLT transceivers are ideal for burst-mode central office equipment, owing to the receiver's extremely fast response to instantaneous signal amplitude changes, a key success factor in advanced TDM GPON optical line terminal equipment," contends John Salvey, vice president of global sales and marketing at Ligent.

The LTB3477 SFF and LTB3677 SFP OLT transceivers, for example, incorporate -29 dBm minimum receiver sensitivity and +1.5 dBm minimum optical output power to assure a solid link budget. The fast setting time assures that the burst-mode receiver can provide the requisite response time required in GPON OLT applications. The LTB3477 and LTB3677 OLT transceivers are designed to operate over the industrial temperature range of -40 to +85 ° C and are in high-volume production, notes the company.
