APRIL 19, 2007 -- Sterlite says its BEND-LITE singlemode optical fiber features reduced bend radius capabilities, enabling tighter routing and higher fiber density for FTTx networks.

APRIL 19, 2007 -- Sterlite Optical Technologies Ltd. (search for Sterlite Optical Technologies) today announced that its BEND-LITE singlemode optical fiber has been enhanced to comply with the ITU Recommendation G.652D & G.657A and the IEC 60793-2-50 type B 1.3 Optical Fiber Specification. Sterlite BEND-LITE also has been tested and certified per the European Union RoHS (search for RoHS) Directive.

The bend insensitivity of Sterlite BEND-LITE optical fiber is beneficial for use in fiber-to-the-home (search for FTTH) applications and is an ideal choice for triple-play service networks and CATV networks, say company representatives. BEND LITE fiber supports installation with low cable bending radii for cable mounting inside buildings. It reduces bend radius capabilities, enabling tighter routing, higher fiber density for component design, and deployment of fiber in central offices, subscriber equipment, backplanes, and premise wiring, says the company.

Sterlite BEND LITE fiber introduces high resistance to additional losses due to macro bending at the 1550- and 1625-nm wavelength region and exceeds the G.657A standard. As a standard singlemode fiber, BEND-LITE is fully compatible with other standard singlemode fibers complying with ITU-T G.652 A, B, C, D standards, thus ensuring excellent splicing performance and compatibility with legacy networks, notes the company.

"The global demand of optical fiber in 2006 was close to what was last seen in year 2000, during the Telecom Boom," recalls Pankaj Khanna, chief operating officer of Sterlite Optical Technologies Ltd. "The industry has entered a very buoyant phase, and new telecom standards are being introduced for new network applications. With the technological edge that Sterlite Optical Technologies has, by virtue of being a fully integrated optical fiber manufacturer, we believe that we are equipped to effectively address the exciting times ahead for the telecom industry," he maintains.
