WTD obtains two national patents for 40-Gbit/sec optical transceiver module
FEBRUARY 7, 2007 -- Based on its 10-Gbit/sec module design, WTD's 40-Gbit/sec modules could be manufactured within a very short time to achieve strong market competitiveness, says the company, which also claims to be the first domestic supplier of the high-end optical modules.
FEBRUARY 7, 2007 -- Wuhan Telecommunication Devices Co., Ltd (search for Wuhan Telecommunication Devices) recently obtained two national patents and applied for one international patent of invention during the development of a 40-Gbit/sec optical transceiver module.
As one of the major projects in China's 11th Five-Year Development Program, the 40-Gbit/sec optical transceiver module is a key optoelectronic device in the field of optical communications and optical module products. WTD representatives report that, following a period of design, optimization, and innovation, the company has successfully accomplished all the requirements according to the national project plan description.
The new 40-Gbit/sec optical transceiver is adopting multi-source international protocol standards, incorporating the relevant international standard specifications. According to the company, the device features:
In a press release issued today, WTD representatives claim that the company's 40-Gbit/sec optical transceiver module "will convincingly hold down the prices of imported products of the same kind; reduce the cost of China's communications system and equipment; vigorously push forward the development and commercial applications of 40-Gbit/sec optical communications equipment in China; enhance the market competitiveness of homemade high-rate communication equipment; and create good economic and social benefits."
Though a number of years later than foreign manufacturers in the development of a 40-Gbit/sec transceiver, WTD claims to have mastered advanced technologies. Based on the design for its 10-Gbit/sec module, WTD's 40-Gbit/sec modules could be manufactured within a very short time to achieve strong market competitiveness, says the company, which also claims to be the first domestic supplier of the high-end optical modules.
Furthermore, WTD representatives say the product has been adopted not only by well-known domestic communication enterprises but also by overseas telecom players. At present, the fiber-optic communication market is rising rapidly, FTTH has been popularized on a large scale, and the demand for optical transmission bandwidth is growing, rapidly, they say, and their 40-Gbit/sec optical transceiver module is poised to meet these emerging demands. WTD predicts its new modules will win the major share of the domestic market and "on the basis of further improving its quality and performance indexes, roll into the world optical communication markets, including the U.S., Europe, Japan and Korea," say company representatives.
