October 20, 2004 Calabasas, CA -- Alcatel has broadened its portfolio of enterprise network infrastructure offerings with a combination of new products and capabilities for its OmniSwitch 6000 enterprise workgroup product family. The introductions include the Alcatel OmniSwitch 6602 Layer 3 workgroup switch, the Alcatel OmniSwitch 6600 U24 fiber-to-the desk switch, and an Alcatel Power over Ethernet capability for the OmniSwitch 6600 family.

Alcatel's new OmniSwitch 6602 is a fully featured workgroup switch built on the Alcatel Operating System (AOS). AOS brings chassis-grade availability at the network edge and allows customers to manage the OmniSwitch 6602 like any Alcatel chassis switch, reap the benefits of policy-based OneTouch QoS and VLAN tools, and support the implementation of Alcatel's Automated Quarantine Engine (AQE) for virus containment. Available in 24- and 48-port 10/100 models, it comes with a lifetime warranty and built in stacking and gigabit ports.

The Alcatel OmniSwitch 6600 U24 fiber-to-the-desk was designed for both military networks where fiber is required for security and for campus networks where workstations exceed the distance supported by copper cabling. It supports authenticated VLANs, SecureAccess management, and AQE for attack containment. Its pluggable optics design supports all of the optics found in the enterprise today (MMF, SSMF, MT-RJ, LC, etc), permits mixing and matching of those optics, and allows enterprises to pay only for the optics they require. The OmniSwitch 6600 U24 supports all of the AOS availability and management features of the Alcatel OmniSwitch 6602 and carries the same lifetime warranty.

Finally, the Alcatel OmniSwitch 6600 workgroup switch joins the OmniSwitch 7000 in supporting 802.3af Power over Ethernet (POE).

The Alcatel OmniSwitch 6602 starts at $2,140. The OmniSwitch 6600 U24 starts at $3,495. Alcatel's Power over Ethernet Solution starts at $3,195. All of these OmniSwitch 6600 workgroup solutions are shipping today.
