IXC Communications Inc. (Austin, TX) announced it will expand Bell Atlantic`s (New York City) ATM cell relay service beyond the carrier`s East Coast region via its digital fiber-optic network. Bell Atlantic currently offers in-region ATM service, but federal regulations prohibit carrying calls across its local access transport area (LATA). Connecting to IXC`s nationwide network will enable Bell Atlantic to provide the services beyond its LATA boundaries.
