The Ultrafast Optical Communications Consortium (UFOCC) was established by BellSouth (Atlanta, GA), Corning Inc. (Corning, NY), and Nortel Networks (Brampton, ON, Canada) to further fiber-optic technology. Each company supports the UFOCC through donations that fund research conducted jointly with the Georgia Institute of Technology. Additional support for the UFOCC comes from the Georgia Research Alliance through the Georgia Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology. The project is aimed at furthering a technology that optically performs digital multiplexing and demultiplexing.
