Surf Internet is making inroads with its ongoing fiber broadband expansion, lighting up service in Dixon, Illinois and four communities near Warsaw, Indiana.

In Dixon, Illinois, the service provider will equip nearly 1,800 residents and businesses with its fiber-based broadband service by the end of the year. The provider expects to pass 3,500 locations with fiber over the next year, with Surf investing a total of $6.9 million in the project.

A milestone community

Dixon is a key market for Surf since it became the location for the provider’s 100,000th fiber passing, a significant milestone as the company moves closer to reaching 400,000 passings by 2028.

Compared to other more prominent providers, Surf is not cherry-picking different parts of the city to provide fiber.

"The project as a whole is really exciting for the city, getting fiber to essentially every home,” said Tim Shipman, building official of Dixon. “We are looking forward to this project ramping up and continuing. The internet needs are continuously growing, having the service speeds that Surf Internet can provide to every resident in town is amazing for our community."

Bridging the underserved

Over in Indiana, Surf Internet began construction in four strategically-located communities located between Warsaw and Columbia City, Indiana. Earlier this month, the towns of Larwill, North Webster, Pierceton and South Whitley held groundbreaking ceremonies to celebrate the milestone.

Surf is investing over $3.5 million across these four areas to build over 2,500 passings by the end of 2023 and into next Spring, with additional passings planned in the coming year.

While these communities are situated near more prominent communities, broadband choices have been traditionally lacking.

“Despite their proximity to larger cities like Fort Wayne and Warsaw, these four towns have been underserved when it comes to high-speed internet,” said Surf Internet CEO Gene Crusie. “Where other ISPs have not seen value, we are committing our capital to serve people who deserve to be on the forefront of digital technology, just as much as residents and business owners in larger communities.”

The work in northern Indiana and Illinois is part of Surf’s commitment to build an advanced fiber-optic network serving rural communities across the Great Lakes region of Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan.
