CommScope’s high-density 36-fiber count (36F) flat drop cable is aimed at supporting rural FTTx deployments. The 36F flat drop cable consists of three microtubes that are stranded
around themselves. Each tube contains 12 fibers, for a total capacity of 36 fibers, and this design addresses the fiber identification challenges seen with a standard 12 or 24-fiber flatdrop solution. With its stranding operation and by leveraging micro tube technology, CommScope’s 36F solution maintains the exact physical dimensions as current flat drop cables, allowing for using existing tooling and infrastructure equipment and simplifying any operational challenges arising from new cable type introductions.
JUDGE’S COMMENT: “The time has come for this to reach the market, especially in high-density splicing situations.”
