Building Broadband: Brightspeed extends broadband to 200K Missouri locations; Comcast rolls out service to 3,400 Oxford, PA homes and businesses

In this latest issue of Building Broadband, we’re tracking new broadband deployments from Brightspeed, Comcast, Ezee Fiber, Fidium, Gateway Fiber, GoNetspeed, Intrepid Fiber, Kinetic, Metronet and Ripple Fiber.

Brightspeed, Comcast, Ezee Fiber, Fidium, Gateway Fiber, GoNetspeed, Intrepid Fiber, Kinetic and Metronet are using public and private funding sources to expand broadband availability in various communities. 

Brightspeed extends broadband to 200K Missouri locations
Brightspeed has made its fiber broadband service available to over 200,000 Missouri homes and businesses and its additional investment of more than $1.1 million to support the communities and organizations it serves across the state. The internet provider continues constructing its new network in and around the state. Once completed, Brightspeed’s network will reach more than 310,000 fiber-enabled locations across its Missouri footprint.  

Comcast rolls out service to 3,400 Oxford, PA homes and businesses
Comcast is lighting up broadband for 3,400 additional homes and businesses in Oxford Borough and Lower Oxford Township, PA. This network expansion is part of Comcast’s latest investment in Southern Chester County, including East Nottingham and West Nottingham, in addition to Highland, Penn, Upper Oxford, West Fallowfield, and West Sadsbury townships.

Ezee Fiber begins constructing Kent, WA fiber network
Ezee Fiber, through a partnership with Kent, Washington, has started construction in the public rights of way to deliver its fiber-based broadband service to residents and businesses. The provider is now constructing the infrastructure to make its network available to thousands of homes and businesses in the Kent area. With construction expected to continue until 2026, Ezee Fiber’s partnership with the city of Kent is part of the effort to facilitate the expansion of broadband infrastructure. Ezee Fiber is funding the expansion of high-speed internet throughout the Puget Sound region. The service provider recently announced its plans to invest $400 million in expanding its network in the Puget Sound region and hiring 350 people for sales, customer service, technician, and other roles.

Fidium lights up multi-gigabit speed access for Jackson, NH
Fidium has expanded its multi-gig, symmetrical speed internet service in Carroll County, bringing its fiber network to more than 2,100 homes and businesses in Jackson, NH. Fidium’s expansion of its all-fiber network, which began in December, is part of a broader effort by the provider to bring fiber to more NH communities. Over 276,000 New Hampshire homes and businesses have access to Fidium, including BartlettConwayEffinghamFreedomMadisonMoultonboroughOssipeeTamworth, and Tuftonboro in Carroll County, with more communities set to be connected soon across the state.

Gateway Fiber expands Western Mass presence with Gardner, MA fiber network
Residents and businesses in Gardner, MA, will soon see construction crews building the new fiber optic internet from Gateway Fiber. The company is expanding its coverage area in western Massachusetts with higher speeds and reliability than any previous internet service. Gardner joins Northampton as Gateway Fiber’s second city in Massachusetts and 26th city overall. Unlike traditional cable internet, Gateway Fiber provides simple, flat-rate, month-to-month pricing with no hidden fees, installation charges, or surprise rate hikes. Gateway Fiber also offers customers free whole-home Wi-Fi. Expanding its services into Gardner also continues Gateway Fiber’s commitment to investing in Massachusetts by creating local jobs and supporting the local area, including a new office and warehouse in Chicopee to serve the western Massachusetts market.

GoNetspeed lights up fiber internet for Springfield, Mass
GoNetspeed has named Springfield, Mass., its latest fiber broadband target. Through GoNetspeed’s privately funded $8.3 million investment in the community, residents and businesses can tap into high-speed symmetrical internet with speeds starting at 500 Mbps up to 2 Gbps. Once construction throughout Springfield is fully complete, over 17,400 homes and businesses will have the opportunity to be connected to GoNetspeed’s service. As construction progresses, more locations will be connected, neighborhood by neighborhood. GoNetspeed anticipates Springfield’s network will be complete by the end of 2025.

Intrepid Fiber adds 65,000 passings in Thornton and Greenwood Village, Colorado, via asset acquisition
Intrepid Fiber Networks has acquired network assets in Thornton and Greenwood Village, CO, expanding its current footprint. It will add over 65,000 passings once deployments are completed. The acquisition of these networks will allow Intrepid to accelerate deployment, shortening the timeframe to connect residents and businesses to Intrepid’s open-access fiber broadband network. Intrepid will continue construction efforts to build the remainder of the planned networks. Residents and businesses in Greenwood Village are already receiving service over the network and will continue with their current provider. Also, Intrepid will continue the deployments in Greenwood Village and Thornton, adding service areas as early as the third quarter of 2025.

Kinetic enables broadband for nearly 1,300 North Carolina homes and businesses
Kinetic will connect 1,292 North Carolina homes and businesses to high-speed internet as part of the latest round of projects authorized under the state’s Completing Access to Broadband (CAB) program. The service provider was selected to connect 785 locations in Union County and 507 locations in Rowan County to its multi-gig fiber network. Kinetic and the counties will split the costs of the projects. Union County’s state funding was $2.8 million, while Rowan County’s project included $2.1 million. Kinetic’s total private capital investment will be approximately $2.1 million for both builds combined. 

Metronet breaks ground on West Dundee fiber network
Metronet is expanding its fiber network to West Dundee, Ill, bringing symmetrical speeds of up to 5 Gbps for homes and up 10 Gbps for businesses. Construction is expected to begin by late spring, with the first customers expected to gain service before the end of the year. Residents and businesses interested in signing up for updates and pre-sale opportunities can visit metronet.com/il/west-dundee. Metronet continues to invest in Illinois, expanding its fiber-optic network in Rockford, Loves Park, East Moline, and more than 40 other communities across the state.

Ripple Fiber adds fiber to the Holden, Mass, community diet
Ripple Fiber has begun construction on the first phase of its $140 million Central Massachusetts project. Soon to follow Holden’s groundbreaking milestone, the provider anticipates construction to start soon in the neighboring Town of West Boylston. Over 9,000 households will receive access to Ripple Fiber’s network between Holden and West Boylston. While actively exploring expansion opportunities throughout the state, Ripple Fiber aims to have its first Massachusetts customers use the new fiber internet service by mid-year. Construction in additional parts of Worcester County will begin soon, with announcements of expansion areas to follow in the coming months. As this phase continues to roll out, Ripple Fiber expects to open two dedicated offices in Worcester County to ensure enhanced customer experience and demonstrate the provider’s commitment to establishing a strong local presence in each market.
