1Finity, Fujitsu’s optical and wireless unit, officially takes flight
1Finity, which houses Fujitsu’s optical and wireless operations, has begun operating under its new name and brand identity.
As Fujitsu announced in April, 1Finity consolidates Fujitsu’s global network-related organizations under one entity, enabling what the company said will be greater autonomy and flexibility.
While the division name is new, 1FINITY is already in use as a brand for Fujitsu’s optical transmission products.
1Finity, which will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu, will continue to deliver a complete portfolio of optical and wireless hardware, software and services. The new company is touting streamlined processes — from research and development to manufacturing, operation and maintenance.
Fujitsu stated that the establishment of 1FINITY is a strategic initiative in line with its Medium-Term Management Plan. As part of this plan, Fujitsu said it “aims to strengthen the network products business while clarifying management responsibility and accelerating the decision-making process towards the growth of global business and expansion.”
Masaaki Moribayashi, Chief Executive Officer at 1Finity. “1Finity is well-positioned to help customers respond quickly to the rapidly changing market landscape with timely delivery of innovative products that maximize the use of innovative technology, software expertise and intelligent AI analytics.”
Consolidating functions, products
Under the new 1Finity structure, Fujitsu will transfer and integrate the network products business into 1FINITY The functions encompassing the development, manufacturing, sales, implementation support (design, construction), maintenance, and operation of network hardware, primarily optical transmission equipment and O-RAN compliant 5G base station equipment, as well as related software (Virtuora series), and the research function for 6G, will be consolidated into 1FINITY.
From an operational standpoint, related employees, including those involved in Fujitsu Network Solutions Limited's telecommunications carrier business, will be consolidated into 1FINITY.
Also, Fujitsu plans to transfer four of its Group companies and their related companies to 1FINITY: Fujitsu Telecom Networks Limited, Fujitsu Network Service Engineering Limited, Mobile Techno Corp., and Fujitsu Network Communications.
The company said “each group company will continue providing their products and services even after integration into 1FINITY,” adding that the “company names of the Group companies to be transferred after July 2025 are yet to be determined.”
Three-pronged focus
As a new brand, 1FINITY will focus on three main areas: business growth and expansion, strengthening competitiveness and addressing new opportunities.
Building off its market share in Japan and North America, 1FINITY will actively expand into the European and Asian markets. In tandem with increasing its geographic reach, 1FINITY will target new customer segments, including the growing cloud infrastructure market.
The vendor will continue to advance its position with new optical data transmission products and new vRAN software that employs GPUs. Leveraging AI and software, 1FINITY said it will streamline overall processes through a consistent management system, spanning research and development, manufacturing, operation, and maintenance, thereby strengthening sustainable cost competitiveness.
New technologies, such as AI, along with 6G and IOWN, will also enable 1FINITY to take on new challenges. The company said, “1FINITY will strengthen Fujitsu’s portfolio by actively enhancing software products and collaborating with partners, aiming for growth in new areas.”
