Fidium has advanced its place in the optical wavelength market by launching 400G wavelength services for its fast-growing DASH fiber network, connecting Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston.

Leveraging Ciena’s optical solutions, Fidium’s DASH fiber network supports the increasing bandwidth needs of enterprise, carrier, wholesale, and Fiber-to-the-Tower (FTTT) customers, while enabling high-performance data center interconnect (DCI) solutions.

Fidium is deploying Ciena’s 6500 Reconfigurable Line System (RLS) and WaveLogic coherent optics (Wavelogic 5 Extreme 800G transceivers and WaveLogic 5 Nano 400G pluggables) to deliver up to 800Gbps per wavelength over both C- and L- L-bands today, with the ability to scale to 1.6 Tbps per wavelength with WaveLogic 6 Extreme when needed.

“Fidium’s DASH network delivers multiple wavelengths, up to 400G, to meet the most demanding customer needs,” said Dan Stoll, president of commercial and carrier business at Fidium.

Extending beyond traditional metros

While fiber operators in recent years have taken advantage of the DASH market opportunity, what’s compelling with Fidium is that it is looking to serve secondary markets.

Fidium’s Longview-to-Corpus Christi route extends the reach of the DASH network beyond the state’s largest metro areas, offering additional connectivity for regions that have traditionally lacked direct access to high-capacity fiber infrastructure.

The service provider has also positioned itself to pursue further growth in the data center space.

Through its DASH network, Fidium connects to more than 65 on-net and 40 near-net data centers across Texas, with continued expansion underway to meet surging demand for high-capacity, low-latency routes.

Today, its fiber network serves more than 700 communities nationwide, delivering fiber solutions to homes, businesses, and communities. But deepening the fiber footprint is only one part of its mission with the Fidium brand.

As it expands its fiber footprint, Fidium will now focus on the customer delivery experience for consumers and business/wholesale customers.

The company will apply the same automation tools and digitize the customer experience for its commercial customers. “The service delivery experience for consumers will match with commercial in the near future, so it’s the right time to pivot,” said Gaurav Juneja, who will become Fidium’s CEO early next year, in an earlier interview with Lightwave.
