Building Broadband: Comcast is lighting up broadband in Ceredo and Kenova, WV; Ezee Fiber expands fiber broadband network to the Detroit Metro area
Comcast, Ezee Fiber, Fidium, GoNetspeed, Hiawatha Broadband Communications (HBC), LFT Fiber, Spectrum, and TDS Telecom are using various funding sources to expand broadband access to more communities.
Comcast brings its broadband show to Ceredo and Kenova, WV
Comcast is connecting more than 2,400 new homes and businesses in Ceredo and Kenova, WV to symmetrical Internet. As a new connectivity provider in Ceredo and Kenova, Xfinity will begin offering services to the first residents later this year. This expansion is part of Comcast’s latest investment in West Virginia, which also includes network expansion projects in three new towns — Princeton, WV, Teays Valley, WV, and Monongalia County, WV—bringing services to nearly 15,000 locations.
Ezee Fiber expands fiber broadband network to the Detroit Metro area
Ezee Fiber is bringing its fiber network to Metro Detroit, delivering fiber broadband services to residential and business customers across the Detroit area, beginning with communities in Wayne, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, Genesee, St. Clair, Monroe and Livingston counties. Residential and business customer installations are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026. Ezee Fiber will create employment opportunities throughout the region, including construction personnel, installation technicians, sales, marketing, and community engagement associates. Residential customers will have access to multi-gig symmetrical fiber internet speeds up to 8 Gbps, while business customers can expect dedicated enterprise-level speeds up to 100G. The company notes that further expansions into additional U.S. states are planned throughout 2026 and beyond.
Fidium serves up 8 Gig fiber and WiFi 7
Fidium announced a major expansion of its fiber-to-the-premise network services, introducing new 5 Gig and up to 8 Gig symmetrical speed tiers alongside Wi-Fi 7 technology. The new flagship plans will begin rolling out in April 2026 to select fiber-eligible locations in Maine, New Hampshire, Texas and California, with additional markets to follow.
GoNetspeed supercharges the Northeast with 6 Gbps speeds
GoNetspeed launched expanded multigigabit internet speeds of up to 6 Gpbs, now available to residents across its service areas in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York. The speed enhancements were implemented without disruption to existing infrastructure. As part of this speed refresh, GoNetspeed now offers four internet tiers—500 Mbps, 1 gigabit, 3 gigabits and 6 gigabits—allowing customers to choose the speed that best fits their needs. Service is currently available in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York, with New Jersey coming soon.
HBC shakes up Southeast Minnesota broadband market with 5 Gbps speeds
Hiawatha Broadband Communications (HBC), a Minnesota-based broadband provider serving residential and business customers, expands access to its 5 Gbps Flight Fiber Internet service. Building on years of fiber investment, HBC is expanding symmetrical multi-gig speeds and now provides 2 Gbps and 5 Gbps options across its service area. The 2026 deployments currently underway will bring multi-gig fiber to communities such as Winona, Red Wing, Lake City, Farmington, Hastings, and Empire. Today, multi-gig Flight Fiber Internet is available to nearly 50,000 locations across the five counties HBC serves, supporting residential and business customers, and those investments continue to expand.
LFT Fiber completes its Eunice, La. Fiber build
LFT Fiber has completed its fiber network in Eunice, marked by a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony at LSU Eunice. The event brought together community members, dignitaries, and education leaders to celebrate the significant impact high-speed fiber internet will have on the region. Funding for expansion into Eunice came from an NTIA (National Telecommunications and Information Administration) grant, providing 3146 addresses in Eunice with access to LFT Fiber.
Spectrum lights fiber broadband network in Harrison County, Texas
Spectrum has expanded its fiber broadband network to bring Spectrum broadband, wireless and video services to more than 6,700 additional homes and businesses in previously unserved or underserved areas of Harrison County, including Elysian Fields, Hallsville, Jonesville, Karnack, Marshall, Scottsville, and Waskom. The cable MSO’s multi-year rural construction initiative is driven by more than $7 billion in private investment from Spectrum. It will ultimately add 100,000+ miles of fiber network infrastructure and deliver symmetrical, multi-gigabit speeds to more than 1.7 million new locations across the country.
TDS Telecom is upgrading its entire Michigan network
TDS Telecommunications is upgrading its Michigan network to deliver high-speed fiber internet connections across its Wolverine State service areas. The network upgrades will deliver a minimum of 100 Mbps of internet speed and up to 8 Gbps of symmetrical connection speed. The new internet infrastructure is a result of private investment by TDS and the Federal Communications Commission’s Enhanced Alternative Connect America (E-ACAM) program, which provides funding support for rural high-speed connections to select locations across the U.S., with the expectation for project completion by the end of 2028. TDS is investing additional dollars to expand the reach of the fiber upgrades. Ultimately, TDS will deliver faster speeds across its entire Michigan network. TDS’s Michigan service territory includes Au Train, Augusta, Beaver Island, Bois Blanc, Bell Oak, Chatham, Clayton, Fostoria, Hickory Corners, Millington, Munger, Perry, Sand River, Sanford, Shaftsburg, Skandia, St. James, and Trenary. The construction phase, which will be rolled out in phases as sections of the network are completed, involves burying conduit and installing fiber cables underground and on poles.
