Sumitomo Electric Lightwave: Precision ferrule technology enables 32-fiber MMC Connector

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave's precision ferrule technology enables 32-fiber MMC connector.
Feb. 12, 2026

To support global demand for high-density connectivity, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (SEL) is offering 32-fiber MMC high-density, ultra-low-loss ferrules to manufacturers and assembly houses throughout the supply chain, in addition to providing a complete MMC portfolio for its customers. Unlike traditional high-density MMC connectors, which are limited to 12-, 16-, and 24-fiber configurations, SEL's MMC technology supports 32-fiber configurations. Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s 32-fiber MMC technology supports data rates up to 1.6 Tbps and meets data center deployment and operation requirements. The next-highest fiber-count MMC in the industry is the 24-fiber version, comprising two 12-fiber rows. Building on US Conec’s MMC connectivity, the product’s 32-fiber design is purpose-built for a world where AI workloads, data traffic, and environmental responsibility intersect.

Judge’s comment: “Delivering the same fiber capacity in a smaller footprint is impressive and very much needed in the industry.”
