Marvell: ACC Linear Equalizers
As traditional passive Direct Attach Copper (DAC) can no longer meet the reach, cable gauge, and thermal constraints imposed by modern AI architectures, Marvell’s Active Copper Cable (ACC) linear equalizers directly address these challenges by extending the usable reach of copper cables while maintaining ultra-low latency and power efficiency. By incorporating an analog signal equalizer, these devices compensate for channel loss in thinner-gauge copper, enabling longer runs of lightweight, flexible cabling that improve airflow and reduce cooling requirements. Unlike digital ACC alternatives that introduce additional power, heat, and latency penalties, Marvell’s analog linear equalizers deliver a near-passive experience with the added benefit of extended signal reach. This provides an immediate path for operators to upgrade to 800G and 1.6 Tbps copper-based interconnect without rearchitecting their infrastructure or incurring the costs of optical deployment. The devices also enable new revenue opportunities for cable and system OEMs, who can now offer longer, higher-performance active copper assemblies at a lower cost and power profile.
Judge’s comment: “Engineers are wringing every bit of capability out of copper media in the data center, and Marvell's ACC Linear Equalizers are at the forefront of this effort.”
