POET Technologies: Teralight
POET’s Teralight 1.6T optical engines that power artificial intelligence and hyperscale connectivity through a highly integrated chip-scale design that is produced entirely at the wafer level. The 1.6T transmit engine includes high-speed drivers, only four externally modulated laser chips (each operating at 2x200G), monitor photodiodes, a thermistor, and an optical multiplexer. With POET’s optical engines, customers can build 1.6T DR8 and 2xFR4 pluggable modules using the same board design. Development partner Mitsubishi Electric provides four externally modulated laser chips, down from the standard eight lasers for 1.6T transceivers, resulting in cost savings. Teralight can reach 3.2T, positioning it to accommodate future generations of computer devices, particularly those that drive AI connectivity and hyperscale data center performance. At the 2025 OFC Conference, POET performed a live demonstration of the Teralight transmit engine, resulting in multiple new customer engagements.
Judge’s comment: “POET’s optical engine simplifies the pluggable transceiver design.”
